The road to a thick lush lawn may seem unattainable but by setting up a lawn maintenance plan, it can be yours in 4 easy steps. Starting in the spring, we would recommend following a 4 step fertilizer program.

Step 1

What to Use

CIL® Golfgreen Gold Lawn Fertilizer, CIL®- Golfgreen Lawn Fertilizer, or CIL®Golfgreen Crabgrass Doctor Corn Gluten Fertilizer, or CIL®Golfgreen Bio-Weed & Feed Corn gluten Fertilizer

When to Use It

Apply March through April. These products should be applied to a frost free, dry lawn. They may be watered in, but it is not required. Before applying your fertilizer, we recommend that your rake off any winter debris, de-thatch, and aerate the lawn if necessary.

Note:

If you are having an issue with moss in your lawn we recommend replacing your Step 1 or Step 2 spring fertilizer with Wilson® MossOut with Lawn Food. It should be applied to a wet lawn and allowed to dry for 24 to 48 hours after the application. Once the moss has turned black, you may rake it up and then begin to amend the soil.
It should be understood when trying to control moss in the lawn, that the moss is not the problem, but is a symptom of a problem with the lawn. This problem can be anything from low pH, lack of nitrogen, poor drainage, lack of adequate sunlight or even lack of air movement. Until these conditions are corrected you will find that you may kill the moss off, but it will continue to return.

Note:

If overseeding in the springtime, replace Step 1 with a CIL®Starter Fertilizer, which should be applied prior to applying your seed. We recommend reseeding with a blend of grasses that are high in Perennial Ryegrass & Turf Type Fescues. These varieties will help thicken the lawn as well as keep insects at bay.

Step 2

What to Use

CIL®- Golfgreen Gold Lawn Fertilizer, CIL®- Golfgreen Lawn Fertilizer, CIL®Golfgreen Bio-Weed & Feed Corn gluten Fertilizer, or CIL®Golfgreen Liquid Lawn Fertilizer

When to Use It

Apply May through June. All should be applied to a dry lawn. They can be watered in, but this is not required.
Note: If you only have a few weeds, or you are using the Bio-Weed & Feed, then now is the time to begin pulling or digging weeds up to stop them from going to seed. For larger weed infestations, we recommend using Wilson® Total WipeOut Max Fast Acting Weed & Grass Killer..

Step 3

What to Use

CIL®- Golfgreen Gold Lawn Fertilizer, CIL®- Golfgreen Lawn Fertilizer, CIL®Golfgreen Liquid Lawn Fertilizer

When to Use It

Apply in August to a dry lawn. This product may be watered in, but watering is not absolutely necessary. Never apply any fertilizer if the daily temperatures will exceed 27 C. If temperatures should rise above 27 C after the application, water it in right away.

Step 4

What to Use

CIL®- Golfgreen Fall Lawn Fertilizer, CIL®Golfgreen Bio-weed & Feed Corn gluten Fertilizer

When to Use It

Apply September through October. Fall is the most important fertilizer application that you can make to your lawn, as it conditions and prepares it for the harsh winter. By fertilizing in the fall, you provide nitrogen to the plant, which in turn is stored in the roots of the plant for use first thing in the spring, providing a very early green up.

Note:

Fall is also the best time to sow grass seed. The warm soil bed at this time of year helps the seed germinate quickly. When seeding in the fall, we recommend not using a Weed Control product, but applying a CIL®Golfgreen Starter Fertilizer before seeding, and then using a grass seed blend with a high percentage of Perennial Ryegrass and Fescues in it such as CIL® Golfgreen Quick Grass Seed , or CIL® Golfgreen Shade Grass Seed.
