Frequently asked questions about Wilson ANT OUT Ant Killer Dust

ANT OUT Ant Killer Dust contains 2 food grade attractant additives to entice insects because ants are attracted to different types of food during their life cycle. It also contains diatomaceous earth, which is a powder made from the sediment of fossilized algae. Its particles have sharp edges that look like broken glass when examined under a microscope. Once the powder is absorbed by the insect's body moisture, the insect dehydrates and dies.

ANT OUT Ant Killer Dust’s diatomaceous earth is an alternative to chemical pesticides when trying to kill ants. Diatomaceous earth is not toxic to humans or pets. However, as with any powdery substance, diatomaceous earth can cause respiratory discomfort when inhaled so be sure to avoid breathing dust.

When you place the dust on the floor and ants ingest it, it will take between 12 and 24 hours to kill them. If you have scattered it on ants, then it will work within 48 hours. ANT OUT Ant Killer Dust remains effective as long as it is present and dry. It will kill the ants that come across it, however that is typically only a portion of the ant colony. You will need to refresh your application from time to time to control more ants. You can also use ANT OUT Ant Bait to eliminate an entire ant colony.

No. ANT OUT Ant Killer Dust is not waterproof. It will remain effective as long as it is present and dry. If you are looking for a product that is more resistant to moisture, we recommend using ANT OUT Ant Bait.

Yes. However, we always suggest contacting a professional exterminator for carpenter ant infestations because these are very tenacious insects that can threaten the structure of a dwelling. As well, it is very difficult for non-professionals to identify the nest.
